# Our Plans Change; God's Plan Does Not

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 3:** Tell God Your Flight Plan for Life! Make Him Smile!

## Context for the Reader

After the airline stories, Chapter 3 states the principle under the narratives: **tell God your flight plan**, but do not confuse your draft with His settled purpose. Section I recovery still applies — present dire air can hide a new beginning if you stay in the problem long enough to use it.

This lesson is the lemonade thesis: execution may look nothing like the filed plan; God’s plan does not thrash with ours.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean separates unstable human plans from God’s unchanging purpose, while still urging advantage from present trouble. Scripture holds both: plan diligently, and bow when the Lord’s counsel stands.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| We do not see the future | You do not know what tomorrow will bring (James 4:13–15); sufficient for the day is its trouble (Matthew 6:34) |
| Dire circumstance may be opportunity for new beginning | God makes a way in the wilderness (Isaiah 43:19); a still more excellent way can open (cf. Joseph, Genesis 50:20) |
| Lemonade from lemons — God works it out | All things work together for good for those who love God (Romans 8:28); beauty for ashes (Isaiah 61:3) |
| Our plans often change | Many are the plans in the mind of a man (Proverbs 19:21a); heart plans his way (Proverbs 16:9a) |
| God’s plan does not change | The Lord’s purpose stands (Proverbs 19:21b); I the Lord do not change (Malachi 3:6); Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Lemonade — and the plan that does not thrash

We do not have the advantage of seeing into the future, so it is important to understand that your present dire circumstance may actually be an opportunity to build yourself a new beginning. The circumstance may eventually allow you to make lemonade out of lemons. The final execution looks nothing like the original plan but somehow God works it out.

The plans we make for ourselves often change. The plan God has for us never changes. The secret is to find out how to use the circumstance of a problem to our advantage.

> **Scholar sidebar — Changing drafts, steady purpose**
> James 4:13–15 underwrites no future sight. Proverbs 19:21 underwrites Dean’s exact split: many human plans; the Lord’s purpose stands. Romans 8:28 and Isaiah 61:3 underwrite lemonade without calling lemons sweet. Malachi 3:6 and Hebrews 13:8 underwrite “God’s plan never changes” as character and purpose, not a ban on mid-course human adjustments. The “secret” is advantage-from-circumstance — Section I eyes in Chapter 3 language.

## Takeaways

1. **No crystal ball.** Lack of future sight means present dire air may hide a beginning.
2. **Lemonade category.** Circumstance can yield good you did not draft.
3. **Execution ≠ original plan.** Final form may look nothing like what you filed — God still works it out.
4. **Our plans thrash.** Human plans often change.
5. **God’s plan holds.** Find how to use the problem’s circumstance to advantage.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
You cannot see the future; a dire moment may become a new beginning and “lemonade,” because our plans often change while God’s plan does not — so learn to use the problem’s circumstance for advantage.

### Does unchanging God mean I never revise my flight plan?
No. Revise your draft as wisdom requires. Dean’s point is God’s purpose and character do not panic-rewrite the way our schemes do.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Proverbs 19:21** — Many plans; Lord’s purpose stands.
- **Proverbs 16:9** — Plan; Lord establishes steps.
- **James 4:13–15** — You do not know tomorrow.
- **Romans 8:28** — Work together for good.
- **Malachi 3:6** — The Lord does not change.
- **Isaiah 43:19** — New thing in the wilderness.

### A simple practice
Write two columns: “My original plan” and “What execution looks like now.” Add a third line: “Advantage I can take from this circumstance this week without pretending the lemon is already sweet.”

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *What does Dean mean by lemonade? Do our plans change? Does God’s plan change?* Keep the contrast crisp for Asker.
