# Two Paths: Plan to Safety or Panic

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 3:** Tell God Your Flight Plan for Life! Make Him Smile!
**Full book:** [deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md](https://deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md)

## Context for the Reader

This chapter moves crisis recovery into **deliberate planning with God**. Section I still frames the moment: problems will come; the method of handling them shapes the rest of the flight. Dean will not let “we all have problems” become an excuse for drift.

This lesson is the fork in the runway: plan toward safety, or panic-worry-nothing — opposite directions, final results.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean’s two paths echo Scripture’s two ways: life or destruction, wisdom or folly, doing or mere hearing. The point is not that feelings never spike — it is that the chosen *method* carries you somewhere final.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Everyone encounters problems | In the world you will have tribulation (John 16:33); do not be surprised at the fiery trial (1 Peter 4:12) |
| Method of handling may determine the rest of life | Whatever one sows, that will he also reap (Galatians 6:7–8); the path of the righteous vs wicked (Proverbs 4:18–19) |
| Build a plan to safety and solid conclusion | The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance (Proverbs 21:5); commit work to the Lord (Proverbs 16:3) |
| Panic, senseless worry, do nothing | Anxiety weighs down; a good word makes glad (Proverbs 12:25); faith without works is dead (James 2:17) |
| Contrary paths, opposite final results | Broad way to destruction; narrow way to life (Matthew 7:13–14); choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Plan to safety — or panic and stall

As stated earlier, we are all going to encounter problems in life. The method we use to handle those challenges may determine how we live the rest of our lives. We can build a plan that can get us to safety and a solid conclusion, or we can panic, senselessly worry, and do nothing. These are two distinct paths that are exactly contrary solutions that will carry us in opposite directions. Both options are final but have distinctly different results.

> **Scholar sidebar — Final forks**
> Matthew 7:13–14 and Deuteronomy 30:19 underwrite Dean’s “final” language: paths terminate somewhere. Proverbs 21:5 and 16:3 underwrite the plan-to-safety path. James 2:17 and Proverbs 12:25 underwrite the panic-worry-nothing path as non-solution. Dean is not shaming the first jolt of fear; he is naming the method that decides the rest of the life.

---

## Takeaways

1. **Problems are normal.** Everyone will encounter them.
2. **Method matters.** How you handle challenges may shape the rest of your life.
3. **Path A: plan.** Build a route to safety and a solid conclusion.
4. **Path B: panic package.** Panic + senseless worry + do nothing.
5. **Opposite and final.** The paths are contrary and their results distinctly different.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
When problems come, you either build a plan toward safety and a solid end, or you panic, worry without sense, and do nothing — two contrary paths with opposite final results.

### Does “final” mean I can never change paths?
Dean means the chosen method carries real, lasting consequences — not that repentance or a later recovery plan is impossible. Switch to Path A as soon as you see you are on Path B.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **John 16:33** — Trouble in the world.
- **1 Peter 4:12** — Not surprised at trials.
- **Matthew 7:13–14** — Two ways.
- **Deuteronomy 30:19** — Choose life.
- **Proverbs 21:5** — Diligent plans.
- **James 2:17** — Faith acts.

### A simple practice
Label your current crisis response in one word: Plan or Panic-package. If Panic-package, write one safety step and one “solid conclusion” marker for this week only.

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *What are Dean’s two paths in crisis? Why is doing nothing a path? What does plan-to-safety look like?* Keep the fork stark.
