## Context for the Reader

This chapter demonstrates the **third emergency procedure** in action: when you cannot stay in the air, you must find a **safe place to land** — even if far from the original plan. The **Michigan** highway is both literal road and spiritual runway: slow truck, fast mind, God as the one who put them there, security relocated from business and house to Him, freedom to fly a different direction by faith.

This lesson is the cab meditation: 55 mph ceiling, review of the brink, real security named, gift of faith, freed from partner and empty past toward a larger goal.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

God directs paths and redefines security. Scripture relocates trust from wealth and houses to the Lord, and celebrates freedom to walk a new way under His leading.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Mind races while body moves slowly | Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10); in quietness and trust is your strength (Isaiah 30:15) |
| Faith overlooked as major weapon of hope | Shield of faith (Ephesians 6:16); faith is the victory (1 John 5:4) |
| God put them on the highway and directed them | A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps (Proverbs 16:9); the Lord will guide you continually (Isaiah 58:11) |
| Real security from God, not business or house | God is our refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1); unless the Lord builds the house (Psalm 127:1) |
| Freed to fly a new direction by faith | For freedom Christ has set us free (Galatians 5:1); forget the former things; new thing (Isaiah 43:18–19) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Fifty-five on the road, faster in the mind

The truck we were driving wouldn’t accelerate over fifty-five miles per hour, but my mind was going much faster as I attempted to think through the steps that carried us from the near-brink of extinction financially, the steps that had overlooked faith as the major weapon of hope.

We realized that God had put us on that highway and was moving us in the direction we were headed. He was helping us realize that real security in life comes from Him and not from the business we had just left or the house we had sold at a loss to be released from the payments. He was moving us toward a new goal and one that, we later could confirm, was much larger and more satisfying than anything we had yet experienced.

I love the freedom of flight, so those moments in that truck were inspiring because they reminded me of the advantage of being able to fly free with the gift of faith. Something was occurring far beyond my control and my capability. In some weird way I began to feel that I was being freed to fly in a different direction. By faith, we were being freed from the burden of a business that waned during my illness, a partner who really couldn’t have cared less if I lived or died, and a recent life that I now realized was empty and unfulfilling. Suddenly, there was an opportunity to fly away. What a wonderful concept, flying free of the past and being able to go in a new direction!

> **Scholar sidebar — Security relocated at highway speed**
> Proverbs 16:9 and Isaiah 58:11 underwrite God-on-the-highway. Psalm 46:1 and Psalm 127:1 relocate security from business and house. Ephesians 6:16 and 1 John 5:4 recover faith as weapon of hope. Galatians 5:1 and Isaiah 43:18–19 frame freedom toward a new direction. Keep the 55 mph detail and the partner “couldn’t have cared less” line — they are Dean’s testimony, not embellishment.

## Takeaways

1. **Slow truck, fast mind.** Body limited to 55; review of the brink ran faster.
2. **Faith as weapon of hope.** He saw again what the steps had overlooked.
3. **God owned the highway.** Direction and placement credited to Him.
4. **Security redefined.** Not left business or loss-sold house — God Himself.
5. **Freed to fly differently.** Past business, uncaring partner, empty life released for a larger goal.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
In a truck stuck at fifty-five miles per hour he realized God had put them on the highway, real security is in God not business or house, and by faith they were freed to fly a new direction beyond his control.

### Why is the highway the landing lesson’s cockpit?
Because the safe place to land is not only a city name — it is recognizing who put you on the road and what true security is while you are still en route.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Proverbs 16:9** — Lord establishes steps.
- **Isaiah 58:11** — Lord guides continually.
- **Psalm 46:1** — Refuge and strength.
- **Psalm 127:1** — Unless the Lord builds.
- **Ephesians 6:16** — Shield of faith.
- **Galatians 5:1** — Freedom Christ gives.
- **Isaiah 43:18–19** — New thing; new direction.

### A simple practice
On your next ordinary drive (or walk), pray only: “You put me on this road. My security is You, not what I left.” Name one past burden you are releasing to fly a different direction.

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *What did Dean learn in the truck? Where does real security come from? What was he freed from?* Keep the highway paragraphs primary.
