# Warped Jets and Spin Training Under Full Armament

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 7:** Regain Control – One Step at a Time
**Full book:** [deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md](https://deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md)

## Context for the Reader

This chapter reinforces the second emergency procedure: **Analyze the situation / Take proper action**. Sequential recovery only works if you trained for the aircraft you will actually fly — bent, repaired, heavy — not the perfect school bird. Dean’s later Laos spin arrives “just as Ken had predicted” because Ken taught warped reality.

This lesson is that prediction and the spin syllabus Ken insisted on.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Ken trains for damaged conditions, not ideal ones. Scripture prepares people for a groaning world, heavy loads, and trials that do not wait for perfect equipment or perfect days.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Perfect conditions will be rare when the fight is real | In the world you will have tribulation (John 16:33); we know that the whole creation has been groaning (Romans 8:22) |
| Bent, repaired, slow-to-respond systems still must fly | We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed (2 Corinthians 4:8–9); the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41) |
| Train recovery under the load that causes the spin | Prepare your minds for action (1 Peter 1:13); train yourself for godliness (1 Timothy 4:7–8) |
| Configuration that precipitates entry must shape the drill | The prudent sees danger and hides himself (Proverbs 22:3); by wise guidance wage the war (Proverbs 24:6) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Spin recovery when the jet is warped and heavy

Ken also told me during the training at Hurlburt Field that the perfectly rigged aircraft we were learning to fly would be rare in combat. The airplanes in the combat theater had been pulled, jerked, bent, shot up, and repaired to the point that their wings might be warped, and their controls slow to respond. He said they would spin on a dime because of their warped condition. He therefore taught me how to recover from a spin when the airplane’s wings were fully loaded with armament, because that was normally the configuration which precipitated the entry into a spin.

> **Scholar sidebar — Drill the load that breaks you**
> John 16:33 and Romans 8:22 underwrite non-ideal conditions as normal, not surprise. 2 Corinthians 4:8–9 underwrite flying while bent without calling bent “failure of faith.” 1 Peter 1:13 and 1 Timothy 4:7–8 underwrite training recovery before the spin. Ken’s logic is pure second-procedure wisdom: analyze the real configuration (full armament, warped wings) and take the proper action that matches it.

---

## Takeaways

1. **School birds lie.** Perfectly rigged trainers are rare in theater.
2. **Combat jets carry scars.** Pulled, jerked, bent, shot up, repaired.
3. **Warped means sudden spin.** Controls slow; spin on a dime.
4. **Train heavy.** Full armament is the configuration that usually starts the spin.
5. **Prediction enables recovery.** Laos later matched what Ken already taught.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
Ken taught that combat airplanes would be warped and slow, and he drilled spin recovery under full armament because that load usually put you into the spin.

### Why train under full armament?
Because proper action must match the configuration that actually causes the emergency — not a light, perfect training jet.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **John 16:33** — Tribulation in the world.
- **Romans 8:22** — Creation groaning.
- **2 Corinthians 4:8–9** — Afflicted but not crushed.
- **1 Peter 1:13** — Minds prepared for action.
- **1 Timothy 4:7–8** — Train yourself.
- **Proverbs 22:3** — See danger early.

### A simple practice
Name one “perfectly rigged” assumption in your life (energy, marriage ease, cash buffer). Write the “full armament / warped” version of the same system, and one recovery step you will practice before it fails.

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *Why did Ken dismiss perfectly rigged trainers? Why spin-train under full armament? How does this prepare sequential recovery?* Keep the warped-jets paragraph primary.
