# Establish the Plan, Own It, Execute in Faith

## Context for the Reader

This chapter returns to the three core emergency procedures that run through the entire book. Dean emphasizes that “analyze the situation” is not passive — it is an active, deliberate examination of what is really happening before taking action. The story of Gideon is used as a powerful biblical model of analysis under pressure.

This lesson closes the Gideon combat arc: analysis produces a plan; faith owns and executes it; those who listen to God meet a favorable conclusion — Dean loves the happy ending.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean’s plan-faith-execute chain is biblical prudence joined to trust. Scripture calls for counsel and planning, then bold obedience to what God has shown — not endless delay disguised as spirituality.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Establish a plan and stick with it | Commit your work to the Lord and plans are established (Proverbs 16:3); the plans of the diligent lead to abundance (Proverbs 21:5) |
| Analyze what will work; take ownership in faith | Faith without works is dead (James 2:17); be doers of the word (James 1:22) |
| Faith essential to proper execution | We walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7); trust in the Lord (Proverbs 3:5–6) |
| Even in emergency, time to stop and analyze | Be quick to hear, slow to speak (James 1:19); the prudent gives thought to steps (Proverbs 14:15) |
| Favorable conclusion for those who rely on God | God works for good for those who love him (Romans 8:28); Gideon’s victory (Judges 7–8) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Plan, faith, happy ending

Gideon was coming up with a plan that would work with this particular enemy and this particular situation. He was also demonstrating faith in God with this plan.

Both establishing a plan and sticking with it are elements essential to your analysis of a plan for life and your situation. You must take time to analyze what will work in your life, structure a plan, and then take ownership of (have faith in) your solution. Faith in a plan becomes essential to proper execution. You must take time to maintain control, and then analyze the situation you are in, so that you can begin to see alternatives. Even in the case of an emergency there is time to stop and analyze the problem. Take time to analyze before you act.

The secret to success for Gideon was deciding to analyze who he wanted to have fight by his side, and how the battle would be fought. The plan God gave him to execute required faith to successfully implement. Gideon knew God had provided the diagram but he still required faith to execute the plan.

If you haven’t read the rest of Gideon’s story I recommend spending some time reading the conclusion because it ends well. Gideon’s army wins the battle and he becomes the hero. I love happy endings. Sometimes to follow God’s instruction in our lives is stressful but there is always a favorable conclusion for those who listen to and rely on God. We are told to slow down and analyze what is happening around us.

> **Scholar sidebar — Diagram plus daring**
> Proverbs 16:3 and James 2:17 hold the two hands Dean joins: God-given diagram and faith that moves. Analysis that never owns a plan is stalling; ownership without God’s diagram is presumption. Judges 7’s ending is Dean’s pastoral bait — read the rest; happy endings belong to listeners, not merely planners.

## Takeaways

1. **Situation-specific plan.** Gideon planned for *this* enemy and *this* situation — with faith in God.
2. **Establish and stick.** Planning and perseverance are essential analysis elements for life.
3. **Own the solution.** Structure a plan, then take ownership (faith) so execution can happen.
4. **Time even in emergency.** Stop, maintain control, analyze, see alternatives before you act.
5. **Ends well.** God provided the diagram; faith executed it; Dean loves the happy ending for those who rely on God.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
Analyze until you can structure a plan, take ownership of it in faith, execute what God diagrams — and expect a favorable conclusion when you listen to him, as Gideon’s story ends well.

### Why is faith part of execution, not only of belief?
Because a plan you will not own dies on paper; Gideon still needed faith to run the diagram God provided.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Proverbs 16:3** — Commit work; plans established.
- **James 2:17** — Faith with works.
- **James 1:22** — Doers of the word.
- **Proverbs 14:15** — Thought to steps.
- **Judges 7** — Read the victory conclusion.

### A simple practice
Write one crisis plan in three blocks: (1) Facts analyzed. (2) Plan structured. (3) Faith ownership sentence — “I will execute X by date Y because I trust God with this diagram.” Then do the first action today.
