# God, Wingman Through the Storm

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 17:** Find Calm Air – Fly Free of Turbulence!
**Full book:** [deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md](https://deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md)

## Context for the Reader

After drills of straight-ahead, elasticity, options, altitude, and calm thinking, Dean ends with the ally: God as wingman. Feeling abandoned is named and refused. Faith is required effort; navigation through to the shortest exit is God’s.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean’s pastoral close stresses presence, belief, and guided passage. Keep his wording in the excerpt; undercarriage uses clear presence and faith texts (including the “possible for those who believe” line’s usual locus).

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Great ally; not alone in the fight | If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31); I am with you always (Matthew 28:20) |
| God does not abandon in time of need | I will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5); be strong… he will not leave you (Deuteronomy 31:6, 8) |
| All things possible for those who believe | All things are possible for one who believes (Mark 9:23); nothing will be impossible with God (Luke 1:37) |
| He leads straight through; shortest exit | When you pass through the waters, I will be with you (Isaiah 43:2); he leads me in paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:3) |
| Express faith and believe; he navigates | Trust in the Lord with all your heart (Proverbs 3:5–6); walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Greatest wingman

You do have a great ally in this fight. Philippians 1:10 (NIV) says, “We are in this fight together.” Don’t forget your greatest wingman in the battle. God is there for you. You may be saying, God abandoned me and that is why I am in this situation. I will guarantee you that you are wrong in that assumption because God does not abandon us in our time of need. If you believe in Him, the Bible says, “All things are possible for those who believe.” God is the one who can lead you straight through the storm and show you the shortest distance to exiting the turbulence and turmoil of the crisis. He is there to navigate you through the problem. You do have to make the effort to express your faith and believe it but He is always there.

> **Scholar sidebar — Ally language, careful citations**
> Dean’s pastoral point is clear: God as wingman, no abandonment, faith-expressed passage. He tags “We are in this fight together” to Philippians 1:10 (NIV wording there is about pure and blameless discernment); the ally sense sits more naturally with texts like Romans 8:31 and Hebrews 13:5. “All things are possible for those who believe” aligns with Mark 9:23. Keep Dean’s prose intact; when teaching, pair his intent with these clearer loci without scolding the author.

## Takeaways

1. **Ally named.** Not a solo fight.
2. **Wingman image.** God with you in the battle.
3. **Abandonment refused.** Wrong assumption in need.
4. **Believe.** Possibility language for those who trust Him.
5. **He navigates straight through.** Your effort is expressed faith; His presence is constant.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
God is your wingman — he does not abandon you in need, and when you express faith he can lead you straight through the storm by the shortest exit.

### What must I do?
Make the effort to express faith and believe; navigation is His, cooperation is yours.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Hebrews 13:5** — Never leave nor forsake.
- **Deuteronomy 31:6, 8** — He goes with you; will not leave.
- **Mark 9:23** — Possible for one who believes.
- **Isaiah 43:2** — Through the waters; with you.
- **Romans 8:31** — God for us.
- **Proverbs 3:5–6** — Trust; he directs paths.
- **Matthew 28:20** — I am with you always.

### A simple practice
Pray aloud once in the storm: “You are my wingman; I will not assume abandonment; lead me straight through.” Then take one straight-ahead step you already know.

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *Does Dean say God abandons us in crisis? Who is the wingman? How does God help exit the storm?*
