# Find the Truth and Accept Help

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 19:** Trials Can Lead to Victory – Look Beyond the Horizon

## Context for the Reader

Chapter 19 turns combat realism into a two-action checklist for anyone who feels under fire now: establish truth first, then take help toward exit. Job-loss scale is named nationally; speed toward calm air matters; God stands ready when called. This prepares the cancer-acceptance healing narrative.

This lesson is the transferable action pair.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Truth before resolution and willingness to receive help are both biblical. Isolation pride prolongs crisis; calling on the Lord is invited.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Determine truth before resolving | The prudent gives thought to steps (Proverbs 14:15); buy truth (Proverbs 23:23) |
| Accept help wherever available | Two are better than one (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10); bear burdens (Galatians 6:2) |
| Mass job loss and failing businesses are real | Do not withhold good (Proverbs 3:27); open hand (Deuteronomy 15:7–8) |
| Move quickly toward calm | Redeem the time (Ephesians 5:15–16); seek peace (Psalm 34:14) |
| God stands ready if you call | Call upon me in the day of trouble (Psalm 50:15); ask, seek, knock (Matthew 7:7–8) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Truth first; help second; call on God

Let’s look at what you can do to find the truth so you can take proper action in your personal situation. You may feel like you are in combat with a situation you are experiencing right now. Just as in real combat, you must determine the truth about what is happening before you can resolve your situation.

A second and equally important action is to find opportunities to get out of the crisis. To do that you must accept help wherever it might be available. There are times when millions of Americans experience job loss due a downturn in the economy or their industry. They may be laid off or are involved in a failing business because of the business environment in their area of the country. Once you enter the crisis mode you must work on the quickest method of moving through it to calm air and a calmer life. God can help us do that and stands ready if you call upon Him.

> **Scholar sidebar — Two verbs: determine, accept**
> Dean ranks truth-finding and help-receiving as equal. Pride often skips the second. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 and Psalm 50:15 underwrite companionship and calling God. “Calm air” keeps the book’s aviation comfort image without promising instant ease.

---

## Takeaways

1. **Personal combat is a fair description.** Feel the heat; still seek truth.
2. **Truth before resolution.** You cannot fix what you will not face.
3. **Accept help — equally important.** Opportunities out often arrive through others.
4. **Macro pain is real.** Layoffs and failing businesses at scale.
5. **Quickest path to calm air; call on God.** He stands ready.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
In a combat-like personal crisis, determine the truth of what is happening, accept available help to exit, move toward calm air, and call on God who stands ready.

### Why is accepting help as important as finding truth?
Because truth without exit partners can stall in isolation; Dean has watched national-scale job loss need both.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Proverbs 14:15** — Thoughtful steps.
- **Ecclesiastes 4:9–10** — Two better than one.
- **Psalm 50:15** — Call in trouble.
- **Matthew 7:7–8** — Ask, seek, knock.
- **Ephesians 5:15–16** — Redeem the time.

### A simple practice
Write one true sentence about your crisis (no spin). List three helps you have refused. Accept or request one of them within 48 hours; pray Psalm 50:15 once aloud.

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *What two actions does Dean give for personal combat? Should you accept help? What does he say about God in crisis mode?*
