# Opportunity Hidden Inside the Problem

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 19:** Trials Can Lead to Victory – Look Beyond the Horizon

## Context for the Reader

After naming cancer’s bad timing, Chapter 19 turns the lens: the same hard situation may conceal progress and a new direction. Dean’s eagle/flying-free language returns — burdens of the past may lift on a schedule we did not choose. God prepares more than eyes and feelings report.

This lesson is the chapter’s opportunity thesis before Romans 6:4.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Hidden opportunity in trial is a biblical pattern: Joseph’s pit, exile’s future, cross before crown. Dean speaks it in aviation-tinged counsel without denying the toughness of the situation.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Progress can hide inside the problem | God meant it for good (Genesis 50:20); light momentary affliction (2 Corinthians 4:17–18) |
| New way of living often involves timing | At the right time Christ died (Romans 5:6); full ness of time (Galatians 4:4) |
| Fly free of past burdens | Lay aside every weight (Hebrews 12:1); old passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17) |
| God surprises beyond sight and feeling | Walk by faith not sight (2 Corinthians 5:7); higher ways (Isaiah 55:8–9) |
| New life prepared if we take the moment | I make all things new (Revelation 21:5); open door (Revelation 3:8) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Look inside the hard thing

When you experience a tough situation, you need to realize there may be an opportunity for progress hidden somewhere inside the problem that can lead you to a new direction in life. Finding the path to take you to a new way of living is often a matter of timing. Your problem may be timed to allow you to fly free of the burdens of the past.

My experience has shown me that God has a way of surprising us with opportunities. Sometimes we recognize only what we can see or feel. He has a whole new life prepared for us if we will take advantage of the moment.

> **Scholar sidebar — Horizon beyond the instrument of feeling**
> Dean will soon press instrument faith; here he already says sight and feeling are incomplete. 2 Corinthians 5:7 and Isaiah 55:8–9 underwrite surprise beyond sensation. Hebrews 12:1 ties “fly free of burdens” to laying aside weights — active response to a prepared path.

---

## Takeaways

1. **Tough ≠ empty of progress.** Opportunity may hide inside the problem.
2. **New direction is possible.** Crisis can reroute life, not only injure it.
3. **Timing is part of the path.** When the door opens matters.
4. **Past burdens can release.** Problem timing may free what comfort never would.
5. **God prepares more than we sense.** Take advantage of the moment.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
In a tough situation, progress and a new direction may be hidden inside the problem — timed so you can fly free of past burdens if you take God’s prepared moment.

### Is he saying enjoy cancer or job loss?
No — he says do not ignore possible change and providence while the trial is real.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Genesis 50:20** — Meant for good.
- **2 Corinthians 4:17–18** — Look to the unseen.
- **Hebrews 12:1** — Lay aside weights.
- **2 Corinthians 5:7** — Faith not sight.
- **Isaiah 55:8–9** — Higher ways.

### A simple practice
Name one burden from the past your current problem might finally force you to release. Pray once for eyes beyond what you can see or feel; write one small “take the moment” action.

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *Can trials hide opportunity? What does Dean mean by fly free of past burdens? How does God surprise us?*
