# Let God Take Control

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 22:** Level Flight – Build Faith into Life
**Full book:** [deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md](https://deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md)

## Context for the Reader

This chapter closes Section II by building faith into life. Dean has defined and practiced faith; here he names the transfer: awareness that you are not in charge of fate, and the quiet moment God assumes command when you admit it.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean’s surrender of control is biblical humility, not passivity. Scripture joins admitting limits with trusting God’s direction.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| We are not in charge of everything around us | A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps (Proverbs 16:9); you do not know what tomorrow will bring (James 4:13–15) |
| Let God take control; He assumes command | Trust in the Lord with all your heart (Proverbs 3:5–6); not my will, but yours (Luke 22:42) |
| Progress without faith is blocked | Without faith it is impossible to please Him (Hebrews 11:6); in all your ways acknowledge Him (Proverbs 3:6) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Quiet assumption of command

As we age in this life there is an element of awareness that begins to creep over our thought process about existence. The development of that consciousness begins to instill in us the ability to prioritize problems. The awareness is usually accompanied by the reality that we are not in charge of everything around us. As I mentioned my personal situation concerning control, I learned that having faith demanded that I let God take control. I became aware that I was not in charge of my fate and when I admitted the fact to God, He very quietly assumed command of my life. What I had attempted to control became secondary to allowing my life to be directed by the God who had created me. It is God, not us, who can direct our lives to the best conclusion. We cannot make real progress in life without faith.

> **Scholar sidebar — Admit, then follow**
> Proverbs 16:9 and James 4:13–15 undercut total self-command. Proverbs 3:5–6 and Luke 22:42 model trust and yielded will. Hebrews 11:6 ties progress with God to faith. Dean’s “quietly assumed command” is testimony, not technique — admission opened the transfer.

---

## Takeaways

1. **Awareness creeps in.** Age and crisis both teach we are not total commanders.
2. **Prioritize under limit.** Consciousness of limits sharpens problem order.
3. **Faith demands release.** Having faith meant letting God take control.
4. **Quiet command.** Admission, not force, preceded God’s direction.
5. **Progress needs faith.** Best conclusion is His directing, not our grip.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
Faith required Dean to admit he was not in charge of his fate; when he did, God quietly assumed command, and real progress became possible only under that direction.

### Why is this not giving up?
Because Dean still acts — but what he tried to control becomes secondary to the Creator’s directing.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Proverbs 3:5–6** — Trust; acknowledge Him; He directs paths.
- **Proverbs 16:9** — Lord establishes steps.
- **James 4:13–15** — You do not know tomorrow.
- **Luke 22:42** — Not my will, but yours.
- **Hebrews 11:6** — Without faith it is impossible to please Him.

### A simple practice
List three things you are still white-knuckling. Pray one sentence of admission over each: “I am not in charge of this; direct me.” Do the next faithful step without reclaiming the throne.

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *How did Dean let God take control? What happens when you admit you are not in charge? Why is progress tied to faith?*
