# No Pity Look Ahead Faith Family

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 25:** Share Your Experience – Help Others Land Safely

## Context for the Reader

This chapter demonstrates that recovery is not complete until it is shared. Beyond tapes and hospital visits, Lonnie’s posture mattered: no room for pity, confidence in Dean, future-only talk. Dean again names Faith and Family as lasting qualities — care made him want to recover; God did the healing. This lesson holds that forward-and-foundations beat. (Dean prose from `FlyingFreeBook.md` Ch. 25 after the split file truncates.)

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean joins a friend’s future-facing confidence with God’s healing and the twin foundations. Scripture presses forgetting what lies behind in the race, refuses despair’s monopoly, and credits the Lord as healer while human care still matters.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| No room for pity; refuse self-sorry loop | Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning (Psalm 30:5); forget what lies behind… strain forward (Philippians 3:13–14) |
| Talk future; looking ahead worthwhile | For I know the plans I have for you… future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11); those who hope in the Lord renew strength (Isaiah 40:31) |
| Faith and Family; care sparks desire to recover; God heals | The two foundations of Ch. 24; I am the Lord, your healer (Exodus 15:26); pray for one another, that you may be healed (James 5:16) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Ahead, not only behind

My friend left no room for pity during that period of my life and refused to allow me to feel sorry for myself. He demonstrated that he had full confidence in me and only talked about the future. He began to show me that there was something worthwhile in looking ahead and not behind. Again, there are two lasting qualities in our lives and they are Faith and Family. Just knowing that Lonnie and my family cared that much made me want to recover. God did the healing and I benefited. Lonnie shared his life and turned a negative experience into something very positive.

> **Scholar sidebar — Future, foundations, healer**
> Psalm 30:5 and Philippians 3:13–14 move through night toward forward strain. Jeremiah 29:11 and Isaiah 40:31 feed hope and renewed strength. Exodus 15:26 and James 5:16 name God as healer while shared life still turns the story. Dean keeps agency (want to recover), friendship, and God in one paragraph.

---

## Takeaways

1. **Pity barred.** Lonnie refused to host Dean’s self-sorry party.
2. **Confidence shown.** Full confidence spoken; future was the only topic.
3. **Ahead worthwhile.** Looking forward gained value over backward stare.
4. **Faith and Family again.** Lasting qualities restated in the recovery moment.
5. **Care → want → God heals.** Human love sparked desire; God did the healing; shared life flipped negative to positive.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
Lonnie left no room for pity, spoke only future, and with Faith and Family care made Dean want to recover — God did the healing while Lonnie’s shared life turned the negative positive.

### How does this connect to Chapter 24?
The same two lasting foundations — Faith and Family — reappear as the qualities that endure while a friend helps you land.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Philippians 3:13–14** — Strain forward.
- **Jeremiah 29:11** — Future and a hope.
- **Psalm 30:5** — Joy with the morning.
- **Exodus 15:26** — I am the Lord, your healer.
- **James 5:16** — Pray for one another; be healed.
- **Isaiah 40:31** — Hope renews strength.

### A simple practice
When sitting with someone depressed, practice Lonnie’s ratio for one visit: more future confidence than pity talk — without denying pain. If you are the one low, ask a trusted person to speak one true future sentence over you.

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *How did Lonnie stop the pity party? What made Dean want to recover? Who does the healing in Dean’s account?*
