# Ask for Wisdom — 2 Chronicles 1

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 27:** Use All the Available Runway – Trusted Advisors
**Full book:** [deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md](https://deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md)

## Context for the Reader

Pride often blocks the runway of counsel. Dean answers the shame of “begging” and then opens 2 Chronicles 1 so requesting wisdom is seen as biblically correct. This lesson holds that ask-for-wisdom beat.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Asking for wisdom is not humiliation in Scripture; it is commanded and rewarded — toward God and in the humility that receives human counsel.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Asking advice costs nothing; shows respect | Let the wise listen and add to their learning (Proverbs 1:5) |
| 2 Chronicles 1:11–12 — ask wisdom, not wealth | Dean’s verse; if any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God (James 1:5) |
| Correct to request wisdom from others | Plans are established by counsel (Proverbs 20:18) |

---

## Dean's excerpt

### Respect, not begging

No one likes to think others are begging, but asking for advice costs no one money, shows respect, and says, “I think you are wise.” The author of 2 Chronicles says in chapter 1, verses 11-12 (NLT), “Because your greatest desire is to help your people, and you did not ask for wealth, riches, fame, or even the death of your enemies or a long life, but rather you asked for wisdom and knowledge to properly govern my people— I will certainly give you the wisdom and knowledge you requested.” The Bible is pretty clear here to say we are correct in requesting wisdom from others.

> **Scholar sidebar — Ask is holy**
> Proverbs 1:5 and 20:18 honor listening and counsel. James 1:5 opens ask-God for wisdom. 2 Chronicles 1:11–12 shows God delighted when Solomon asked knowledge over spoils. Dean applies that permission toward human advisors as well.

---

## Takeaways

1. **Not begging.** Reframe the ask.
2. **Zero money cost.** Barrier is pride, not price.
3. **Respect signal.** “I think you are wise.”
4. **2 Chronicles pattern.** Wisdom over wealth, fame, revenge, long life.
5. **Biblically correct.** Requesting wisdom from others is allowed and right.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
Asking for advice is respect, not begging — and 2 Chronicles 1 shows God honors the request for wisdom, so we are correct to seek wisdom from others.

### Why fear “begging”?
Because pride would rather crash solo than look dependent; Dean removes that false shame.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **2 Chronicles 1:11–12** — Wisdom requested and given.
- **James 1:5** — Ask God for wisdom.
- **Proverbs 1:5** — Let the wise listen.
- **Proverbs 20:18** — Establish plans by counsel.

### A simple practice
Ask one person for advice this week with the explicit words: “I think you are wise about X — what would you do?”

### How this feeds Ask Dean
