# Blinded by Circumstance and 2 Corinthians Finish

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 27:** Use All the Available Runway – Trusted Advisors
**Full book:** [deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md](https://deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md)

## Context for the Reader

Trusted-advisor runway is blocked when you only see your own pain. This lesson holds the barrier warning, the call for a second objective look, and Paul’s finish-what-you-started counsel in 2 Corinthians 8:10–11.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean pairs human blindness under trial with Scripture’s call to finish begun work and to welcome counsel that keeps the project alive.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Blinded by circumstance blocks landing | The heart is deceitful above all things (Jeremiah 17:9); in a multitude of counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14) |
| Wise friend: objective advice and accountability | Faithful are the wounds of a friend (Proverbs 27:6) |
| Finish what you started | 2 Corinthians 8:10–11 (Dean’s verse); let us run with perseverance (Hebrews 12:1) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Objective look; finish the start

If you allow yourself to be blinded by your circumstance, there will always be a barrier to your landing. Find a way of getting someone else to take an objective look at the suggested solution for your problem. Maybe a wise friend can provide objective advice and accountability. Second Corinthians 8:10-11(NIV) says, “Here is my advice: It would be good for you to finish what you started a year ago. Last year you were the first who wanted to give, and you were the first to begin doing it. Now you should finish what you started.”

> **Scholar sidebar — See again; finish**
> Jeremiah 17:9 and Proverbs 11:14 explain why solo vision fails. Proverbs 27:6 honors truthful friends. 2 Corinthians 8:10–11 and Hebrews 12:1 press completion. Dean’s barrier is not lack of runway only — it is lack of sight.

---

## Takeaways

1. **Blindness is optional cooperation.** If you allow it, barrier remains.
2. **Someone else looks.** Your suggested solution needs external review.
3. **Wise friend package.** Advice plus accountability together.
4. **2 Cor 8:10–11.** Paul’s advice: finish what you started.
5. **Landing needs completion.** Start without finish is not a touchdown.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
If circumstance blinds you, landing stays blocked — so invite a wise friend’s objective look and heed Paul’s call to finish what you started.

### Why quote 2 Corinthians here?
Because trusted advice is not only comfort; it is pressure to complete the good work already begun.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **2 Corinthians 8:10–11** — Finish what you started.
- **Proverbs 27:6** — Faithful wounds of a friend.
- **Proverbs 11:14** — Safety in counselors.
- **Jeremiah 17:9** — Heart’s deceit.

### A simple practice
Write your current “suggested solution” in five lines. Hand it to one wise friend and ask only: What am I not seeing?

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *What barrier blocks landing? What does 2 Corinthians 8 say? Why accountability with advice?*
