This lesson holds the closing application only. > Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking. --- ## Biblical foundations (preface) Listen, decide, follow through, and treat wisdom as space to land — these are deeply biblical recovery habits, not mere corporate tips. | Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage | | --- | --- | | Receive and use information from many areas | Let the wise listen and add to their learning (Proverbs 1:5) | | Listen, formulate, follow through | Be doers of the word, and not hearers only (James 1:22) | | Listening to advisors + deciding well | Plans fail for lack of counsel (Proverbs 15:22) | | Wisdom provides additional runway | Wisdom is better than jewels (Proverbs 8:11); get wisdom (Proverbs 4:7) | --- ## Dean's excerpt ### Listen; implement; extra runway If you are going to expect to have success in life, you must be willing to receive and use information from as many areas as possible. The decision-making process is often tied to the ability to listen to others, formulate a course of action, then follow through. In follow-up studies, the most successful college graduates were those who had listened to trusted advisors and developed the ability to decide what they wanted to do with their careers. Those two factors, willingness to listen and follow through, play a huge role in our ability to perform well when we are faced with a problem. Begin now to use all your available experience in an emergency. Listening to trusted advisors and implementing that advice are essential to moving forward with life after a crisis situation occurs. The key to recovery from a bad situation is to think, act, and respond using all the available resources to gain knowledge and perspective. Wisdom provides additional room—runway—for you to safely land your problem and go forward. > **Scholar sidebar — Wisdom lengthens the strip** > Proverbs 1:5, 4:7, 8:11, and 15:22 make listening and wisdom success conditions. James 1:22 demands implementation. Dean’s last sentence is the chapter title fulfilled: wisdom = runway. --- ## Takeaways 1. **Many information areas.** Success is multi-source. 2. **Listen → course → follow through.** Full decision chain. 3. **Grad study echo.** Advisors plus career decision ability. 4. **After crisis essentials.** Listen and implement; use experience now. 5. **Wisdom is runway.** Knowledge and perspective add landing room; then go forward. --- ## First-time learner ### What is Dean saying in one sentence? Success and post-crisis recovery require listening, deciding, and following through — implementing trusted advice — because wisdom itself gives you extra runway to land the problem and move forward. ### Why “implementing”? Because unused advice is wasted runway; hearing without doing is not a landing. ### Key verses to read with this lesson - **James 1:22** — Doers, not hearers only. - **Proverbs 15:22** — Counsel and plans. - **Proverbs 4:7** — Get wisdom. - **Proverbs 1:5** — Let the wise listen. ### A simple practice Take one piece of advisor counsel you already agree with. Do the first physical step today. Mark it “implemented.” ### How this feeds Ask Dean Seed material for: *How does Chapter 27 end? What two factors matter in a problem? How is wisdom runway?*
