# Objective People Help You Land

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 27:** Use All the Available Runway – Trusted Advisors
**Full book:** [deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md](https://deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md)

## Context for the Reader

This chapter teaches that crisis landing should not be attempted alone. Trusted advisors supply objective perspective when your own instruments are unreliable. This lesson holds only the opening bridge: stop self-pity, then use objective people as runway for major decisions.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean’s corporate habit of seeking objective counsel matches Scripture’s honor for many counselors and shared wisdom under pressure.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Objective, knowledgeable people help solve problems | Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed (Proverbs 15:22) |
| Positive influence on major decisions | In an abundance of counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14) |
| Added dimension to safely land in crisis | Two are better than one… if either falls, one can help the other up (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Another facet of proper action

I just spent a number of pages talking about how to avoid feeling sorry for yourself and the importance of moving forward with life.

Now I am going to relay another facet of decision-making that must be used if you are to take proper action in a crisis. One thing I have learned many times in my corporate experience is that there are usually people around you who are objective and knowledgeable about a problem that needs solving. They can be a positive influence in helping you make major decisions. Those people provide an added dimension to your ability to safely land in a crisis.

> **Scholar sidebar — Counsel as runway**
> Proverbs 15:22 and 11:14 tie advisors to success and safety. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 makes help mutual. Dean’s “added dimension” is the chapter’s runway metaphor in seed form.

## Takeaways

1. **Bridge from Ch.26.** Self-pity refused; forward motion still needs counsel.
2. **Must-use facet.** Proper crisis action includes other people.
3. **Usually available.** Objective, knowledgeable people are often already around you.
4. **Major decisions.** Influence is for weighty choices, not trivia only.
5. **Safe landing dimension.** Advisors enlarge your ability to land.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
After warning against self-pity, Dean says crisis decision-making must include objective, knowledgeable people who help you land safely.

### Why start with corporate experience?
Because the pattern is learned in real leadership settings before it is applied to personal crisis.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Proverbs 15:22** — Many advisers; plans succeed.
- **Proverbs 11:14** — Abundance of counselors; safety.
- **Ecclesiastes 4:9–10** — Two are better than one.

### A simple practice
List three people who are objective about your current problem. Circle one you will actually ask this week.
