# Connected to the Ground Enjoy the View

**Author:** Dean Rush

## Context for the Reader

This chapter acknowledges the emotional release that comes when the crisis finally ends. Dean’s honest admission of his fear of heights on the Empire State Building observation deck is a beautiful, vulnerable moment that humanizes the entire book.

This lesson is the turn from panic to enjoyment: retrace the solid connections under your feet.

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

Dean’s calm came from remembering foundation, not from pretending height was gone. Scripture anchors fear in rock, cornerstone, and firm footing — then freedom to see.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| Felt the world tilting / collapse fear | When my heart is faint, lead me to the rock (Psalm 61:2) |
| Stopped and thought about where he was | Set your minds on things above with wisdom (Colossians 3:2); take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) |
| Enjoyed the view after truth settled | Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8) |
| Connected solidly to the ground / foundation | Foundation on the rock (Matthew 7:24–25); cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20) |
| Thinking about connections stopped worry | You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You (Isaiah 26:3) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Trace the connections; enjoy the view

When I first walked onto the observation deck of the Empire State Building, I felt the world was tilting and the building might suddenly collapse. Later when I stopped and thought about where I was, I began to enjoy the view. I had walked up some steps, climbed on an elevator, and walked out onto that deck. The building was connected solidly to the ground, the elevator that transported me was connected to the building, and there was a solid foundation under the whole thing. When I thought about the connections to the earth I stopped worrying.

> **Scholar sidebar — Mind stayed on the foundation**
> Matthew 7:24–25 and Ephesians 2:20 underwrite solid foundation. Isaiah 26:3 underwrites peace when the mind stays on what is true. Dean did not leap off the deck to feel safe — he thought the chain of connection back to earth until worry released and enjoyment returned. Crisis landing works the same way: remember what still holds.

---

## Takeaways

1. **First feeling can be tilt.** Panic may arrive before truth.
2. **Stop and think where you are.** Deliberate reflection changed the experience.
3. **Enjoyment followed foundation-thinking.** View became gift after connection was clear.
4. **Chain of connection matters.** Steps → elevator → building → ground.
5. **Worry stopped at earth-links.** Not by denial of height, but by truth about support.

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
On the Empire State deck he felt collapse panic until he traced how everything connected to a solid foundation — then he stopped worrying and enjoyed the view.

### What is the transferable move?
In fear, stop and name the real supports under your present position instead of only feeling the tilt.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Matthew 7:24–25** — House on the rock.
- **Isaiah 26:3** — Perfect peace, mind stayed.
- **Psalm 61:2** — Lead me to the rock.
- **Ephesians 2:20** — Cornerstone foundation.
- **Psalm 34:8** — Taste and see.

### A simple practice
For one anxious “deck” moment, write the connection chain: what actually supports you (people, practices, God’s promises, next duties). Read it once slowly; then name one “view” you can enjoy today.
