# Type A and Jesus Takes the Burdens

**Author:** Dean Rush
**Book:** *Flying Free* · **Chapter 31:** Maximize Your Range – Convert Attitude to Altitude!
**Full book:** [deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md](https://deanrush.net/downloads/flyingfreebook.md)

## Context for the Reader

The climb becomes personal. Dean narrates exhausted earthly alternatives, slow Type A surrender, and the emancipation of letting Jesus carry burdens and forgive misdirection — while still taking responsibility to help correct business problems. The confession that opens a new world: “God, I believe you.”

> Voice note: Everything under **Dean's excerpt** is Dean's original prose (lightly cleaned only). Sections marked **Biblical foundations**, **Scholar sidebar**, **Takeaways**, and **First-time learner** are enrichment for Asker / first readers — not Dean speaking.

## Biblical foundations (preface)

The gospel meets the self-sufficient: yoke easy, burdens lifted, forgiveness real, yet works of repentance remain — faith says yes to Christ and still repairs what can be repaired.

| Dean's claim | Scriptural undercarriage |
| --- | --- |
| God available, responsive, helpful | Call on Me in the day of trouble (Psalm 50:15); near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) |
| Not in charge | In his hand is the life of every living thing (Job 12:10); God gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5–7) |
| Emancipated from carrying mistake-burden alone | Come to Me, all who labor (Matthew 11:28–30); cast burdens on the Lord (Psalm 55:22) |
| Jesus took burdens; accept forgiveness | Bore our sins (1 Peter 2:24); if we confess, He forgives (1 John 1:9) |
| Responsibility remains while grace holds | Bear fruits in keeping with repentance (Luke 3:8); faith working through love (Galatians 5:6) |
| “God, I believe you” | I believe; help my unbelief (Mark 9:24); believe in the Lord Jesus (Acts 16:31) |

## Dean's excerpt

### Earthly alternatives spent — then trust

I quickly learned when I had used up my earthly alternatives that God was available, was responsive, and was helpful. As a strong Type A personality it took me longer than most to understand that I was not in charge, but it was absolutely emancipating when I realized that I did not have to carry the burden of my mistakes. Jesus gave His life to take on all my burdens and all I had to do was accept His forgiveness for my misdirection. He accepted my business mistakes (I had to take responsibility and help correct the problems) and He also accepted my personal deficiencies. When I finally began trusting that Jesus provided the forgiveness for me for past mistakes and took on my personal burdens it was a brand new world. My perspective changed for the positive and my attitude about the future followed the same track. I could begin looking for new goals and direction in life to find a positive solution to problems. I had to say, “God, I believe you.”

> **Scholar sidebar — Grace that still cleans up**
> Dean refuses two errors: (1) self-atonement by carrying every mistake forever, (2) cheap grace that skips responsibility. Matthew 11:28–30 and 1 John 1:9 meet Luke 3:8 — forgiveness received, problems still corrected. Type A delay is named without pride. “Brand new world” is perspective and future attitude changing together — the altitude conversion from the inside.

---

## Takeaways

1. **God met empty earthly options.** Available, responsive, helpful.
2. **Type A learns slowly he is not in charge.** Emancipation waits on that admission.
3. **Jesus carries burdens; you accept forgiveness.** Misdirection is named and released.
4. **Grace and responsibility together.** Business mistakes forgiven; cleanup still required.
5. **Trust births a new world.** Perspective, future attitude, new goals — “God, I believe you.”

## First-time learner

### What is Dean saying in one sentence?
When earthly options ran out, this Type A learned he was not in charge, let Jesus take his burdens and forgive his mistakes (while still helping correct them), and entered a new world by saying “God, I believe you.”

### Why keep the business-cleanup parenthesis?
Because Dean will not let faith become an excuse to abandon repair — emancipation is from crushing guilt, not from stewardship.

### Key verses to read with this lesson
- **Matthew 11:28–30** — Come; rest; easy yoke.
- **1 John 1:9** — Confess; forgive; cleanse.
- **1 Peter 2:24** — He bore our sins.
- **1 Peter 5:5–7** — Humble yourselves; cast cares.
- **Psalm 55:22** — Cast your burden on the Lord.
- **Mark 9:24** — I believe; help my unbelief.

### A simple practice
Write two lists: (1) burdens only Jesus can carry, (2) repairs you still own this month. Pray the first list to Him; schedule the second. End aloud: “God, I believe you.”

### How this feeds Ask Dean
Seed material for: *What did Dean learn as a Type A? How does Jesus take burdens and still require responsibility? What confession opened a new world?* Keep testimony structure primary.
