### Context for the Reader

This chapter opens the final section of the book. After maintaining control and taking proper action, the pilot (and the person in crisis) must land. This chapter summarizes the three-phase framework that has guided the entire book and prepares the reader for the practical “landing” chapters that follow.

---

Our flight plan through Section I and Section II has prepared you for executing your recovery plan. As a framework we applied the three principle steps used by airmen who face airborne emergencies to a process for resolving tragic personal problems and for restoring harmony from chaotic crisis situations:

1. Maintain/regain aircraft control
2. Analyze the situation/take proper action
3. Land as soon as practical

These three directives apply to our lives and our reactions as we seek conflict resolution—in airmen’s terms: *straight and level flight*.

1. Get control of the situation—stop things from getting worse.
2. Analyze the situation/take proper action. Use all available resources to determine not only what led to this situation but the steps and path toward recovery. Recognize God’s grace. Seek His help and through faith, trust His way.
3. This is the *landing piece* that gets your life back on firm ground.
